Fanboy mode on
I have had surprisingly little to complain about over the Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood series this far. Even if I still think the first anime was a little more shiny for some reason, but that could just as well only be random rosy memories. And the voice changes that I really feared could make me react negatively haven't actually made me cringe very much at all. I do miss old Envy a little though. In any case I like that they seem to have decided to make the best of the opportunity and give us new scenes animated with no more overlap than absolutely necessary. Still, it does have a rather high speed in its storytelling, and I can only imagine how someone who hasn't read the manga must feel sometimes. But for me, I can hardly wait until we get into new manga storyline-land.

Since I'm in fanboy mode, something about the rest of my current anime spring season. Something new, something old. As usual for me:

Hetalia Axis Powers. It's hardly surprising that I find the anime shorts entertaining I suppose. The concept is so weird-cute and something only a Japanese could have come up with.

Shangri-La. Nothing really fantastic, but not that bad either this far. After reading about it, I just had to see what it was going to be about. Not really what I expected, but I guess I continue watching it for a while.

Full Metal Panic. Not a new one at all, I know. But it was something that had been on my "maybe watch someday" list for a looong time, and now there happened to be this combination of stumbling over it, and at the same time remembering that someone with usually very good taste seemed to have liked it, so... And this far I don't regret it. It is nice entertainment! Much better than the short synopses I once read made it sound.

agreeing with you whole heartedly^^ the first series seemed smoother and shinier, but this is a bit softer, graphic-wise. the thing thats soften it the most are probably backgrounds and Elrics' hair, color traced. you already know my opinion on it, but I do love this second adaptation very much, especially since it's very close to the original^^
as for voices, I already got used to new Roy. Riza is very in place, her seiyuu is experienced in playing such characters. new Envy... hmm the previous one was cool, but hearing Dilandau's voice impresses me way too much XDDD sorry, I just love how that woman plays psychos^^; overall? will deffinetely follow^^

hoho, I see you started FMP^^ I have to warn you. first series is nice, sometimes slow graphically but overall very nice and touching^^ second, fumoffu..... for me is ridiculous. I don't like it at all. it's a collection of funny and random stories from novels, not really developing the story or relationship. there's however ONE moment, during which I literally SCREAMED XDDD I'm sure you'll recognise it, it involves pants^^; third series, TSR, is a masterpiece. I have never, up till now, seen a series that's been realised with such care, such high budget, that just flows perfectly fluid on your sceen. deffinetely reccomending^^

as for 2 others, hetalia is off limits for me^^; I'm sorry, it's just that fangirls discouraged me very VERY much from watching it^^; shangri-La? maybe. good fantasy is always appreciated^^ tell me what you think about it^^

from other new series I'd like to reccomend Higashi no Eden. fantastic modern mystery series with a cute romantic element^^

I should trust you to being able to put words to exactly what make me feel that "shiny" change XDD I don't have your artists eye and ability to say it in words! ^^;

Weeell, I never said I didn't like it, did I? XD And I'm still amazed of how natural the new Roy, Riza and others fit into my mind. That's unusual for someone who normally are kind of sensitive for such changes. Not even Envy's new one make me cringe or anything, it was only a tiny reminiscence of that scene in the first series that suddenly played ghost in my mind. I'll probably get used to love the new one as well. (But then again, Envy's part will be somewhat different in the long run in this version, so I don't know. Envy's character in the latter half of the first series was someone I really enjoyed, and I'm not sure I'm equally as fond of manga-Envy ^^; But we'll see.) And I could also be suffering in my judgment from the fact that I've never seen Dilandau with the official Japanese voice... That's STILL something I really have to remedy some day ;_;

I'm still only barely halfway through the first series of FMP, so I still have a bit to go to the unliked part XD This far I'm mostly enjoying the nice mix of funniness, mechas, the fanservice, and the interesting charas. I'm really impressed by the facial expressions they use by the way! Especially Chidori's make me smile SO much every now and then. And you better warn me my dear, since you're the one partially responsible for me watching it in the first place... ^^

Hetalia is... special, to say the least. While I don't know for which one of several reasons they discouraged you from it, I still think I can understand it XD Most people seem to be into it for its slash possibilities, while I'm watching it for the weirdness in the concept and because I'm curious what they come up with in historical terms. But you don't miss much, really. It's momentary weirdness fluff.

Shangri-La is also kind of weird this far, but in a different, more normal anime weirdness way ^^; It's the environmental disaster sci-fi angle that made me have a look, but it's stranger than I expected. But then again, it's a Gonzo production after all XD Some eco-terrorists, a couple of transvestites, a secluded strange princess with strange entourage, a couple of disturbing rich brats in some sort of economic dark organization using some sort of half-magical entity for their plots. It's strange alright ^^; But I kind of like the protagonist and some others, so as I said, I'll see where it goes. Don't really think it's going to end up as something fantastic though.

Ah, that Higashi no Eden was one of the few I noted as maybe in the season overview I read. But the "finding naked mysterious man" part sounded kind of strange ^^; (and then I chose Shangri-La instead. Go me ^^; I really need people with good taste that can point me to the right things I suppose XDD So I guess I'll be checking it out too soon. From your description it does sound better ^^
