Manga and anime info time
Because [info]dzioo had it, and it was too tempting not to bite. I still can't make up my mind about how the sometimes somewhat extensive lack of knowledge from my side should be interpreted. Good or a bad thing? (It could, of course, also be seen as lucky (for me) that the selection of titles here seem to be somewhat odd...)

And to improve my standing a little at least, I let the Escaflowne one stay on too. It was after all there when I first started to write my answers on the version nicked from Dzioo ;P

MANGA/ANIME/GAME -meme
- talk about the title
- add one title

* Naruto
Read one chapter, found it bleh. Watched first episode of the anime, found the main character annoying. Nothing since that.

* D.Gray-man
Reads it - and watch it now and then - but it's a so-so title for me. Too much standard shounen I suppose.

* Prince of Tennis
Never tried this one.

* BLEACH
I have some scanlated chapters lying around since some three years back or so. Nothing I got really hooked on, and due to its length now, I think I'll try to avoid getting too interested in it.

* One Piece
Read the first volumes of the manga and sort of liked it, and watched the first dozen of anime episodes or so on TV. My main problem is a sometimes very slow pacing, especially in the anime version. That, and Usopp is kind of annoying for some reason.

* Mobile Suit Gundam
Seen most, but not all of the original this far and actually like it. It is dated now, naturally, but sometimes I like to watch those kind of animated shows that smells of my childhood. As for the rest of the franchise, I've seen - and loved - Gundam Wing and Gundam Seed, and seen and tried to love Seed Destiny and Gundam 00. My current venture into the franchise is the Mobile Suid Gundam 08th Team, which I this far love a lot. Oh, and I still have Gundam X lying around somewhere to continue watching someday.

* Final Fantasy
Still haven't finished playing the two titles I've got - FFVII and VIII. Apart from that, I only know of Advent Children.

* Neon Genesis Evangelion
The one that everyone's supposed to love and hold to high artistic merits. I don't. It's good, but nothing that really justifies the hype.

* Dragon Quest
For some reason, Dragon Quest for me sounds like an old computer game. I don't know anything about this, actually.

* Black Cat
I only know this by hearsay.

* Gakuen Heaven
Nothing I know anything about.

* Dragon Ball
Ah, the manga that started the Japanese comics craze in Sweden in the late 1990s. I've read the first volumes, naturally, but it's not really my style of comic. Way too much boring shounen style fights.

* Hunter x Hunter
Only watched the first anime episodes. Another shounen story that is nothing special to me. But not entirely without merits either.

* Gintama
Don't know of this.

* Death Note
Have read a bit into it, but still have to finish it. Not bad, but I'm not sure the topics involved fits with my current mood. Currently saves it for not-so-rainy days.

* Majin Tantei Nogami Neuro
Never heard of it.

* Shoujo Kakumei Utena
Read the first volume, but this is too shoujo for me.

* Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl)
Unknown.

* Eureka 7
Haven't seen. After hearing good about it, I checked it out but the character design puts me a little off for some reason. And that's enough for it to be overlooked in favour of other series for the time being apparently.

* Meitantei Conan
My favourite back when I had access to German TV. The original manga version I've only read the first volume of (but twice, both in German and Swedish). I was ticked off by the Swedish translation, and the series is a little too long for buying the more expensive German books. I still catch the occasional anime episode when I have the chance and is in the mood.

* GANTZ
Read about it and decided it wasn't anything for me.

* Rozen Maiden
Watched the trailer and read about it, but decided it sounded a little too meh to me.

* BLOOD+
Again, something that after didn't really sound like something for me.

* Sailor Moon
*sings* En liten tjej med jättelånga flätor, sådär en 14 år och rätt söt... Sorry... ^^; THE anime series that was for Swedish anime entertainment was Dragon Ball was for the manga. Except that SM is much... better (not sure that's the word to use here, but... well, it's Sailor Moon!) The classic. If you haven't seen at least some eps of Swedish dubbed Sailor Moon, you haven't studied Swedish anime history. Enough said.

* Howl's Moving Castle
This one is on my to watch list. Ghibli films I haven't yet seen are deliberately rationed to last longer.

* Katekyo Hitman REBORN!
No idea what this is.

* Ouran High School Host Club
I admit it was with some reluctance that I started to watch this anime after some of my dearer friends with exquisite taste recommended it. But it didn't take long for the reluctance to change into love. One of the best of the newer manga and anime series. Definitely!

* Nodame Cantabile
Read about it, but sounded a little too weird.

* Kingdom Hearts
Naturally I've read about this one and seen excerpts from both games and comics, but it's still a weird concept and nothing I really want to get near.

* Persona
Unknown to me.

* Lucky Star
Again, pretty much unknown.

* Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
Same here.

* Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Definitely has its own style in both storytelling and art, which made it a refreshing thing to watch. I guess this is something you either love or hate. And I'm more in the love camp.

* Gravitation
Again something that a (female) friend is responsible for having me watch and read. And, well, it's good entertainment actually. And an interesting introduction in the world of shounen-ai/BL. In the trivia section, this is the only anime I first watched a couple of episodes fansubbed in Italian... (oh the challenging old days when WinMX was the way to try to find fansubs...).

* LOVELESS
Have the manga lying around, but haven't got the time to actually read it through. Fear it's a little too much in the shounen-ai direction to be anything fantastic. But we'll see the day when I go on reading more than the first chapters and seeing more than the first episode.

* Ah! My Goddess!
I like this one, it's cosy. But I'm still far from reading all of it; it's cosy, not brilliant story-wise. I'm somewhat in love with Fujishima's detailed drawing style. It's also fun to see the improvement between his early drawings and the later ones.

* Tokyo Majin Gakuen Kenpuchou
Um, what?

* Samurai 7
I've heard a lot about this one, but just because of that I'm a little wary to actually see it. Re-using famous movie stories can turn out good sometimes, but also be a disaster just as often.

* Samurai Champloo
A little to strange in its ways for me. Watched two episodes but never got around for more.

* Peacemaker Kurogane
Not seen.

* Air Gear
Another odd choice of theme that's not really for me.

* Mononoke
No knowledge of it. (It's apparently not Mononoke Hime that's meant here.)

* DOGS
No knowledge.

* Code Geass
When I first heard of the combination of CLAMP and mecha anime it sounded kind of strange. But it works. And it's good, even if it continue to balance on the thin edge - or more like criss-crossing it - between good and bad. Will see what side it ends up on.

* Ookiku Furikabutte
No idea.

* Fullmetal Alchemist
The manga is much better than the anime, which in turn is pretty good and shiny too (even if the ending is kinda non-conclusive in a not so good way). But if I have to choose, I'd choose the original manga. (This isn't really anything unusual, I almost always favour the orginal comics over the animated version, no matter how fantastic the anime turns out.)

* Fullmetal Panic!
Another one which has been on my to watch list for a long time now ^^;

* Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu
It seem to have been hyped in extremes, which already that makes me kind of weary. And it doesn't sound very interesting either, so no, I'll pass on this one.

* Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo
Nope.

* Kaze no Stigma
I recognize the title, but nothing more.

* DOLLS
Unknown. Judging from the name only it doesn't sound like anything I'd like though.

* Azumanga Daioh
Another kind of comic, and one that's rather nice. Not that I've read all that much.

* Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto
The historical buff in me liked the concept, but to be honest, it's another of all these so-so anime.

* Black Blood Brothers
No idea.

* Chobits
I've only read the first chapters and decided it wasn't my cup of tea. But after having read a more in-depth description of it, I've started to wonder if I was too quick to judge it back then. Maybe I'll give it a second chance someday.

* Chrno Crusade
I've only read the manga and have yet to see the anime, but the manga was quite in my taste! Except that I agree with [info]dzioo on the ending.

* Darker than Black
Nope. Not seen.

* Digimon
The anime unfairly dubbed the "pokémon copy" by some. Didn't watch a lot of it back when it first was current, so my knowledge is mostly from Tamers, some Frontier, and Savers.

* Pokémon
Probably is for a somewhat younger generation what Sailor Moon was for the older. I watched it, actually. The first 100 episodes or so. But it was a little too late for me to be hooked on it for real.

* DN Angel
Read it up to volume 6 this far, mostly just because it was one of the earliest manga to be translated into Swedish, and in a way that don't make me squirm too much when reading it. Storywise it's nothing out of the ordinary really, but it's ok.

* Elfen Lied
A little too much blood for my taste.

* Eyeshield 21
Had I not happened to see a doujinshi of the more *cough* questionable variant on this title, I wouldn't have had any idea what this one was about. Now, American football isn't my thing, so I have no real interest in it.

* Fruits Basket
One of the first shoujo comics I started to read and somewhat liked. But it seems its getting a bit too dragged out and I've stopped after some 6-7 volumes.

* Ginga Nagareboshi Gin
Unknown.

* Ginga Densetsu WEED
Unknown.

* Ghost Hunt
Unknown.

* Great Teacher Onizuka
One of my real hate objects, as so often probably because of the main character being someone you just wish dead or mutilated - in the bad sense.

* .hack
I've watched half of the first anime series, mostly attracted by the overall feeling and the music. But I dunno about the actual story.

* InuYasha
Started to read the manga, but more or less abandoned it due to length and no-progress. It's also one of these that ended up in limbo due to my inability to make a decision about what version to buy - the local Swedish one that's easy obtainable but with a translation that makes me cringe, or the German one that I began on but is harder to get.

* Lovely Complex
No, never deemed it to be in my taste.

* Mermaid Melody
No knowledge.

* NANA
No closer knowledge of it.

* Papa to ♥ KISS IN THE DARK
Que?

* Princess Tutu
Nothing I'd choose.

* Romeo x Juliet
I think I'll leave [info]dzioo's statement here. She can speak for me too: "Juliet was a kickass and I liked the reversed relationship. but as the romance grew stronger.... it bored me==;"

* Pretéar
No idea what this is.

* Suki na Mono wa Suki Dakara Shou ga nai!!
No idea #2

* Kyo Kara Maoh!
Fun, but 78 anime eps got a little too long. And it seems it'll become even longer now.

* Tokyo Mew Mew
Not my taste. Which is probably exactly how it should be.

* Fushigi Yuugi
I have a lot of the manga volumes (due to Swedish bargain store which sold them for approximately 1€ a piece), but still have to get the time to read them. The good thing with it is that it belongs to those slightly older manga that can be nice just because they are older style, and it's a decent story I suppose.

* Sensitive Pornograph
No. Albeit I admit I could go look it up just because of curiosity about the title.

* Kirepapa
?

* Togainu no Chi
??

* Lamento
???

* Trinity Blood
Felt a little too much like something I had seen before.

* Vampire Knight
Unknown.

* Soul Eater
Ditto.

* Junjou Romantica
With "romantica" in the title, I probably don't even have to look it up.

* Amatsuki
No idea.

* BLASSREITER
Unknown.

* Crystal Blaze
No knowledge of it.

* Druaga no Tou ~the Aegis of URUK~
I actually have a note here that I should have a look at this one some day. But right now, I have no idea what it is about or why I've noted it.

* Itazura na Kiss
Unknown.

* Kanokon
Same.

* Macross FRONTIER
Known, but Macross has never appeared on my watch list earlier even if I understand the original is a classic.

* Monochrome Factor
?

* Wagaya no Oinarisama
?

* xxxHOLIC
CLAMP's style has never attracted me all that much.

* Nabari no Ou
?

* Monster
Not my thing. Really.

* Wild Adapter
Unknown to me.

*Vision of Escaflowne
Together with Gundam Wing the one responsible for starting my mecha interest. And as such one of my strong loves, as soon as I got used to the noses...

*Baccano
The way of telling the story is a little confusing, but in the end, that's probably a big reason for why I ended up so charmed by it. All in all it's kind of unique in its mix.

[and the obvious add on]
*Slayers
Light-hearted fantasy entertainment that was instant love for me the moment I first laid my eyes on it.

Three things:
1. Utena the anime is very different from Utena the manga, stylistically. The story is pretty much the same, but the anime is very... well, eccentric, in the good way. The guy who directed it was later involved with Ouran, so you do see some similarities sometimes. Like that episode in which Tamaki's status in Haruhi's eyes was symbolized with as a kite against the sky? Utena is like that, times hundred.

2. Haruhi is indeed hyped - the numerous reference to the otaku culture, I guess - but I personally thought that it was worth the time spent watching it.

3. Not that I am going to be forcing CLAMP on anybody, but 'holic is pretty much as far from their "usual" style as you can get. The second season of the anime looks Very Promising, if you should ever feel like giving it a try.

Re: Three things:
1. Never knew that since all I've ever seen is the manga and that one is... flowery for sure. Granted, it was one of my first brushes with the shoujo manga genre so I might not react as strongly now, but still. The Ouran connection for the anime could be a positive thing I suppose, if it's the right things that's been carried over by the director.

2. It's possible that I'll get around to watch Haruhi someday. I know it sounds odd, but somehow it's just as much the hype itself that make me refrain from seeing it. So if I can just forget about that and give it a chance, it might not be so bad. But sometimes it's hard approaching with an open mind.

3. Seeing that my early introduction to CLAMP was the first chapters - and some German later chapters - of Chobits, I guess I should give them a second chance maybe. Especially since several of the people who usually have good taste seem to agree on the 'holic part.

*approves of your choosing the FmA manga before the anime* :D

Agree with [info]nighteevee about xxxHolic. Although actually, that's the manga (and anime) that made me rethink my opinion of Clamp. It's a very nice series. :)

Otherwise, I wish you'd rethink your opinion of Princess Tutu. No matter how it looks, it is a brilliant, original show and one of my top favorites. ♥

Duokai, a.k.a. Johan: cagalli[info]duokai on May 6th, 2008 03:48 pm (UTC)
If they only had waited with the anime version of FmA. Not that it's bad in any way, but I can't help to think how brilliant it could have been had the manga been allowed to rule all the way ;_;

I better give xxxHolic a chance someday it seems XD Princess Tutu on the other hand still looks and sounds so... well, girly ^^;

aaaahhh yes, there was escaflowne^^ because I had great difficulty in picking up just one title and Baccano was the newer and probably more recognisable one==;

hahaha yaayy slayers finally XDDDD indeed a love at first sight, and a must for every anime fan, IMO^^ and seriously, I have nothing to add to your version. for NGE, I too am quite reserved. people treat it like a holy thing while for me... well... maybe I'm too stupid and ignorant to trully appreciate it^^;

and it seems you have a similar habit to me - when fandom is too hyper about something, you keep away from it^^;;; I got this feeling when I read your Suzumiya Haruhi description^^

and boy, I didn't know you watched Baccano already O_o

hmmmm should I feel responsible for you liking a certain PINK not-so-very-much-yet-a-very-much-one shoujo title? XDDDDDD
Duokai, a.k.a. Johan: kyoya[info]duokai on May 6th, 2008 03:57 pm (UTC)
...and since I wanted both on the list I used you as a good excuse XDDD Hey, everyone ought to know about Escaflowne if you ask me. That's a classic! ^^

Your observation is very much correct, yes (as if similar habits would surprise you by now ^^) I'm not sure why it is like that, but if something is hyped over the top I get suspicious about it ^^;; Or maybe it's just some side-effect of my stubborn side? No general public opinion should tell me what I'm supposed to like ^^;

Well, I told you a while ago that I had started watching Baccano so... And once started I kind of wanted to see more, so yes, it's finished. And loved! Although I admit that I probably ought to do like you and rewatch it to get clearer on the details. That kind of storytelling is a big part of what makes it good, but it can also be somewhat confusing sometimes ^^; Do I need to tell you that I loved Ennis? No, don't think I have too XD

hmmmm should I feel responsible for you liking a certain PINK not-so-very-much-yet-a-very-much-one shoujo title?
YES you should! XDDDD Albeit you might not be the sole responsible, you have a big part in it (if I remember correctly). So go ahead and feel proud of or sorry for having the ability to twist poor boys minds ^^
sara: zetsubou[info]spherehunter on May 3rd, 2008 07:15 pm (UTC)
1. You should watch Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. You really really should. It's only good in the beginning though before it turns into a (somewhat/very atypical) harem anime, but really if you appreciate hmmm dark humor and desperation and general STYLISHNESS, you'd probably like it. Read up on it and decide for yourself. It's the only anime I've even bothered to watch these last few years and that should account for something.

See icon ^^

2. NANA = One of the better manga for young women - strong characters, interesting story and good relationship drama. Of course it went soap opera and down the drain, but the beginning is very strong and impossible to put down, and I also really recommend the first live action movie. Or I like it because I'm a girl.

3. Dragon Quest is a series of Japanese RPG's, known for being the essence of what a JRPG is and NEVER even trying to change its concept. Indeed as boring as it sounds, it's stuck in the late 80's/early 90's idea of what a game is.

4. Ginga Nagareboshi Gin is an old series about dogs. (Yup, the dogs are the main characters and thus talk) Wouldn't recommend it, the only people I've known that liked it watched it when they were kids and still liked it today because of nostalgia. I thought it was pretty boring.
Duokai, a.k.a. Johan: kyoya[info]duokai on May 6th, 2008 04:01 pm (UTC)
1. From that icon and some pics it seems to have a somewhat unusual artistic style (that looks more like cut from a manga than an anime or however it should be described). Still it does sound kind of interesting...

2. Oh, wait, I think I've read about this one somewhere. (An SF-Bok catalog being the most likely culprit.) But it still feels very much shoujo to me. Maybe because I'm not a girl? ^^

3. So I wasn't so far off in my memory then! Don't think I've missed much though.

4. Okaaay... So after actually looking it up I find that it is the one we Western gaijin calls Silver Fang. Which means I have the first DVD standing somewhere, bought at ÖB for a golden coin. Had I been brought up in Japan - or hit it here when in the right age - I probably would have been all over it for that silly nostalgia thing. After all, here speaks the one who's currently using "Det var en gång" cartoons as breakfast entertainment while swooning over Tomas "Tintin" Bolme's voice. Nostalgia is a dangerous thing.
